Initiatives

The great naturalist Aldo Leopold preached the fact that we, as people, should leave the environment and society better than we found it. GeoSpatial Services has found great satisfaction in joining local, regional and global initiatives to continue Leopold’s teachings.

Sustain Winona Logo

Locally, GeoSpatial Services has partnered with Sustain Winona. An organization that is working to make Winona, Minnesota a more sustainable and conscious to the fact that climate change may threaten our way of life in Minnesota. Preliminary goals set forth in this initiative were to: 1) reduce solid waste generated in the community by 25%, 2) Reduce electricity consumption by 10%, and 3) Reduce fuel consumption by 5%.

Regionally, Geospatial Services has partnered with the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to map wetlands in eight northeastern and eastern counties to supplement the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative is the first major restoration project directly related to the Great Lakes in two decades.

Globally, Geospatial Services understands the responsibility of wealthy nations to help foster development in other parts of the world. GeoSpatial Services is in the initial stages of partnering with organizations to help bring Geographic Information Systems to developing nations in an effort to facilitate responsible growth with regards to regional planning, ecosystem conservation and natural resource management.
